Uncertainty in our lives

When a door closes, another one opens.

I decided to write about uncertainty because I believe it's a topic very present in everybody's life in these moments. Generally when uncertainty presents itself it develops in ourselves feelings of discomfort, concern, impatience and even anxiety.

We are used to having a routine because it gives us stability. When this routine is disrupted and we are thrown out of balance then we can start feeling lost. This is a completely normal and acceptable feeling, however, we should develop strategies to channel, in a positive way, the feelings unleashed in us by uncertainty.

The first act we shall do is to acknowledge what we are feeling. The first step towards understanding a feeling is accepting it, because denying it or trying to hide it will only make it worse. If necessary, we should take some time to process the "negative" feeling and give ourselves the self-care necessary to cheers us up (like taking therapy, practicing meditation, being in contact with nature or any activity that functions as a healthy emotional release).

Thereafter, the following saying comes in place: "when a door closes another one opens". The important thing to remember about this phrase is not to stare too long at the door that has already closed so we can identify new opportunities that arrived with the particular uncertainty situation. It is of course easier said than done, however, going out of our comfort zone is an exercise which help us heal and grow more than we can imagine; also it brings excitement into our lives.

Once the new opportunity has been identified the next step is to make the most of it. This does not guarantee its success but it does guarantee the probability of being successful in our new adventure. If we don't change anything then nothing changes, as simple as that. And, if the new opportunity does not turn out the way we wanted, it will certainly leave behind knowledge necessary to ultimately achieve the desired success.

Remember that even though uncertainty is uncomfortable and undesirable, it is necessary for our own growth and it can improve any aspect of our lives.
